My mom always used to make fried dough for her brother, my Uncle Joe. Sometimes they were filled w/ a sweet ricotta filling and then sprinkled in sugar and sometimes there was no filling but dipped in sugar. I think there also was a savory one with spinach and ricotta, but I was just into the sweet ones as a kid. Thanks for reminding me. :-)
