On a purely capitalistic note I have to say she is a genius for playing both sides of the coin. Personally, I am tempted by some of her recipes but never found myself willing to follow through. I hope anyone dealing with the disease can take the steps to maintain health or get better.

Paula Deen, the Southern belle of butter and heavy cream, makes no apologies for waiting three years to disclose she has diabetes while continuing to dish up deep-fried cheesecake and other high-calorie, high-fat recipes on TV.

Deen is the pitch person for Novo Nordisk's new online program, Diabetes in a New Light, which offers tips on food preparation, stress management and working with doctors on treatment. She has contributed diabetes-friendly recipes to the website and takes the company's drug Victoza, a once-daily noninsulin injection that had global sales of $734 million in the first nine months of 2011.

few can profit off self inflicted injury with effortless skill

I really don't know who the hell she is, but from what I have read, she is not anyone of much consequence in the food world (and I loathe celebrity chefs and elitism about food).

I saw a morning show where they had her on and they had her do a butter taste test to identify where 6 different butters came from, and what variety they were. Sample 6 was snuck in by her assistant from Paula's home fridge.

She pegged all six, and when tasting the sixth, she exclaimed "This is MY butter, how did you get it!" That woman knows her butter!

You know, she is a really successful business woman who raised 2 successful sons who are great entrapeneurs as well. I'd eat at any of her or her sons' restaurants. Now I don't think I would buy any of her cookbooks, but I'd gladly accept one as a gift.

Jeez, how many unhealthy chefs are there in reality? 20%, 30%, 50%. She's just one many of us are familiar with.

Nobody is giving James Beard or Julia Childs crap for their bodies (well, they are both dead, but you get my point)

I think the criticism is in the hypocrisy of promoting an unhealthy diet, while knowing that it is unhealthy and adversely affecting you, and then turning around to make a profit by pitching a drug that you wouldn't need if you didn't eat five pounds of butter a day.

most of her recipes call for a large amount of butter.

Butter is worth giving up a few years on the declining end of life.

Looks like the butter industry has its new tagline.

"Butter: It's what's for [nearly your last] dinner." --- with appologies to our healthy beef industry.
