HD replacement in an iMac.....don't try this at home? - dad@home - 11-07-2012 Hard disk in my 2007 24" iMac is toast. (I think the 5400rpm drive is running at 33 1/3) The iFixit instructions don't look too hard. I'm pretty handy... have made a hackintosh, replaced a mobo in a Macbook Pro, put together a plug in hybrid Prius but I am scared of ruining the glass or LCD when I pull it apart. Any words of wisdom from those that do this for a living? Thanks John Re: HD replacement in an iMac.....don't try this at home? - Buzz - 11-07-2012 A shot of good single malt scotch before you start to steady your nerves... Re: HD replacement in an iMac.....don't try this at home? - decay - 11-07-2012 take your time, and you should be OK. Re: HD replacement in an iMac.....don't try this at home? - hal - 11-07-2012 The glass is the hardest part... Get suction cups and remove and place in a safe, perfectly clean spot. I set it on edge with the cups still attached and lean it against a wall so that what I look though isn't touching any surface. If dust settles on the inside, I'd blow it away with canned air. Just follow every step carefully and it's not that bad of a job. Re: HD replacement in an iMac.....don't try this at home? - Zoidberg - 11-07-2012 It was daunting, if I'm remembering the right model. But it's quite do-able. Re: HD replacement in an iMac.....don't try this at home? - zero - 11-07-2012 There is a video on OWCs site. Re: HD replacement in an iMac.....don't try this at home? - dad@home - 11-07-2012 Thank you all I'm gonna go for it! (my wife will kill me if I screw it up....its her machine). John Re: HD replacement in an iMac.....don't try this at home? - C(-)ris - 11-07-2012 Just make sure to keep a firm grip on the screw driver and keep a finger between the screw and the screen. You don't want the bit to slip out and scratch the screen.
