Bosh - Haydn and Mozart died at least 20 years before cell phones were invented.

...But from the sound of it, the phone belonged to someone on stage.

Where do you get that from?

Good for him!
I used to think my local concert hall (Orchestra Hall) had some kind of shielding preventing cellular signals from penetrating into the hall, but then I switched to Verizon.

Think about where the mics have to be to pick up the cell phone and still get the sound from the stage with such clarity.

For that kind of sound, they're either jacked into the sound system for the stage or they're placed on-stage near the instruments. The cell phone has roughly the same clarity as the piano. It's practically on top of a mic.

Here's one from last year for comparison... The audience-sound near the middle gives away the location of the mic, between the audience and the stage, but closer to the audience - note how faint the cell phone sounds.

And here's one from a balcony right over the stage:

(Amanda Palmer has had some troubles lately, but she is such a cutie! Neil Gaiman is a lucky man! Smile )

Have you been to a professionally recorded orchestral performance? There are microphones every few feet.
No relationship whatsoever to someone with a camcorder on a tripod in the balcony.
Never heard of Amanda Palmer before though-- thanks!

Every few feet on the stage, yes.

Which generally makes for poor recording when the sound is coming from the audience.

But you're ignoring (or maybe didn't notice) that this was being professionally filmed and recorded for release. Whoever decided to release these clips could have just cranked up the house mics a bit on the mix.

True.

I'm assuming that they didn't cheat.
