..... UPDATE: looks like he had prostate cancer in 2012....which later spread to the bone.....so even though classified as 'natural causes'.....
...William Hurt’s son, Will, posted today that his father has died.
“It is with great sadness that the Hurt family mourns the passing of William Hurt, beloved father and Oscar winning actor, on March 13, 2022, one week before his 72nd birthday. He died peacefully, among family, of natural causes. The family requests privacy at this time.”....
William Hurt, Oscar-Winning Actor for ‘Kiss of the Spider Woman,’ Dies at 71
....William Hurt, an acclaimed actor best known for his Oscar-winning performance in 1985’s “Kiss of the Spider Woman” and his work in “Broadcast News,” “A History of Violence” and “Children of a Lesser God,” died Sunday of natural causes. He was 71 years old.
Hurt was nominated for supporting actor for “A History of Violence” and for actor for “Broadcast News” and “Children of a Lesser God.”
More recently, Hurt portrayed General Thaddeus Ross in 2008’s “The Incredible Hulk” and then reprised his role in “Captain America: Civil War” and “Avengers: Infinity War,” “Avengers: Endgame” and “Black Widow.”
After studying at Juillard and appearing on stage, Hurt secured a lead role in “Altered States,” playing a troubled scientist in Ken Russell’s film. The next year he co-starred with Kathleen Turner in “Body Heat,” and followed that with another lead role in “Gorky Park.”
Hurt’s death was confirmed to Variety by his friend, Gerry Byrne.....

That's a bummer. I came so close to watching Broadcast News yet again last night. It's on my list. He was a great actor.

Kiss of the Spiderwoman was one of those extremely great movies that I can only bring myself to watch once. Real performances like that are brutal to watch - Broadcast News I can watch over and over again...
