Beatles Music Should Be Online Next Year NEW YORK (Reuters) - Former Beatle Paul McCartney says the Fab Four's music will probably make its long-awaited Internet debut next year, a U.S. music Web site reported on Thursday. As a group, the Beatles have been among the highest-profile holdouts to putting their catalog online, but a recent settlement to a lengthy trademark dispute between Apple and their company, Apple Corps Ltd., was seen as finally clearing the way. "It's all happening soon," McCartney told Billboard.com. "Most of us are all sort of ready. The whole thing is primed, ready to go -- there's just maybe one little sticking point left, and I think it's being cleared up as we speak, so it shouldn't be too long. "It's down to fine-tuning, but I'm pretty sure it'll be happening next year, 2008." McCartney said any delay in bringing the Beatles' music to the Internet were due to contractual issues as well as deliberate planning by all parties involved. "You've got to get these things right," he said. "You don't want to do something that's as cool as that and in three years' time you think, 'Oh God, why did we do that?!" The solo catalogs of all four Beatles have been available digitally since October, when the music of George Harrison went digital. Apple has not said when it expects to release the Beatles' catalog, though the market has been expecting it since the trademark settlement in February. Re: ab FAB!. . .'Beatles' music coming to internet next year. . . - Kramerica - 11-15-2007 I don't get why this has been a story/source of rumors for years now... It will be nice when it goes away. Re: ab FAB!. . .'Beatles' music coming to the internet next year. . . - Lux Interior - 11-15-2007 Most of us are all sort of ready. Most of us? Aren't half of them pushing up daisies? Re: ab FAB!. . .'Beatles' music coming to the internet next year. . . - prof - 11-15-2007 What is this "internet" that you speak of??? Re: ab FAB!. . .'Beatles' music coming to the internet next year. . . - $tevie - 11-15-2007 Closer Let me whisper in your ear Say the words you long to hear Re: ab FAB!. . .'Beatles' music coming to the internet next year. . . - davester - 11-15-2007 Why is this important? Beatles music has been available on easily rippable CDs or more difficult to copy LPs for decades. Re: ab FAB!. . .'Beatles' music coming to the internet next year. . . - Jimmypoo - 11-15-2007 It's for those born since only the MP3 player has been out - and have no idea what a CD is, let alone vinyl or tape. Why anyone would want a 128kbit rip over the real thing I can't figure out... and no true back-up, let alone award winning album covers, liners, notes, art, etc.??? They may be small, but I'll take the tangible any day. Though I do want to see them available. They are the Mozart/Beethoven of our time, and I think it is great to see them rule the music world nearly 50 years later. What's even funnier are running into pansy ass'd adults who have no idea of the significance of Abbey Road, as an album, as a street, as a studio icon, as a brand, etc. Such head up arse awareness is simply beyond my comprehension. Re: ab FAB!. . .'Beatles' music coming to the internet next year. . . - Zoidberg - 11-15-2007 $tevie, that'd be a good backdrop for the first iTunes Store/Beatles commercial. I also figured a Feb 14th release, with "All You Need Is Love". And for those going on again about the catalog being available for years on rippable CDs, yeah, I hear you. But it's all from the late 1980s CD dumps (they didn't do any real remastering). After hearing the remastering quality in the Yellow Submarine Songtrack, not to mention the "Love" CD (for the Vegas show), I can hardly wait for the digital catalog to make its debut. And even though they've been out for ages, they'll dominate for a while at the iTS upon release; I guarantee that. "Dark Side of the Moon" is still in the top 10 at the iTunes Plus side, and that album has been available on CD for over 25 years. |
