VZW- Driving Profit by forcing data plans...

Aaarrgghhh... It seems like Veri$on (and prolly all the cell phone companies) are forcing data plan add-ons on people. I want to upgrade some family phones, but all they seem to want to offer are data plan required phones. I don't need data plans. I don' t want data plans.

Dangit.

What are you looking for in terms of phone capabilities? VZW has a variety of phones that do not require a data package.

Went through the same agony upgrading my daughter's phone. The non-data plan phones were crappy. Ironically her plan has a block on internet from way back.

David Pogue always has a few choice posts about VZW and its pricing plans.

It's called "adding value."

They forced upgrades with Internet last year. They eliminated the lowest, cheapest FiOS speed, bumped everybody to the higher speed at the corresponding $10 per month higher cost. But they took great pains to claim that is was not a "price increase." Yeah, whatever.

Verizon stinks. Luckily, T-Mobile has not forced data plans on their feature/smartphones.

Great, but no iPhone. sad smiley

Sprint has a sucky data plan requirement as well. I wanted to get an EVO to replace my 12th replaced Palm phone in just under three years (last six have been Centros), but Sprint insists that we have to take the $69 data plan for both lines ($140 vs $80/mo), even though my S/O doesn't want and won't get a data (smart) phone.

At least AT&T only charges ten bucks for the second line.

I'm wondering if customer pressure will get Sprint to alter their stance on data plans? I'm sure that we're not the only customers that take issue with this pricing policy.

I don't actually want an iPhone. Too expensive. No contracts for me.

Yes, Verizon's forced data plan on feature phones is keeping me from upgrading my Daughters LG Chocolate 3.

All she needs is a phone with a std headphone jack for music & 2 MP or better camera for occasional shots. Her current phone does this, but acts flaky once in a while.

All of Verizons no-data phones are very crippled so that they're like 5 year old phones.

I see four 2.0 MP Verizon feature phones, but they all have 2.5mm headphone jacks (a standard, but I am guessing different than she wants).

Have you looked at a used phone or refurbished phone?

No one wants 2.5mm headphone jacks, but they are better than some of the other options.
