hawaii, kauai vs maui?

I've been to Kauai several times and really enjoy it. I love that it isn't crowded, the informality of the island, sitting on an uncrowded beach reading a book, snorkeling, having a nice dinner at night. I stay at a very basic condo while there and I don't typically spend very much money, usually dinner is my big expense. I've been there so much that I worry I'm in a rut though. Should I give Maui a try? If so, where would you recommend I stay to keep the simple and informal style that I enjoy?

Perhaps you could head to the east coast side of the island and stay near Hana. The snorkeling is better on the west side, but the pace of life there is more like Kauai.

Kinda hard to go wrong, y'know?

Those are the two islands I've been to. Maui was more commercialized (I was near Lanai) but I can't say that bothered me much.

Definitely try Maui.
I prefer Kauai myself, but Maui is a very close second.

Kauai is very beautiful and clearly less commercial .
Hana, Maui sounds like it might be what you are l@@king for Dave.
It is very mellow and laid back. There are Many vacation rentals there and of course
there is The Hana Hotel.

Whichever spot has the best girl-watching. Let's be real here.

I have a beautiful wife so wherever I am with her is the best girl watching. :-)

I think I've decided on a return to kauai. It is so casual there and I'm comfortable there. I've visited many times but because I usually do a budget trip I haven't taken advantage of some fun things to do there such as the kayak trips on the river so maybe it is time to try some new activities. I'd love to figure out a way to go sailing for the day but all I can find are tourist catamaran trips. I'd prefer a mono hull that I can helm some of the time.
