USB 1 is pretty slow -- does your emac have USB 2?

12 in 1 card readers are $5 almost every week at my local Frys (not sure where u are)

Office Depot sells an adapter that lets you use a camera card as a USB drive. They were $10 when I got one. Now I can use it to directly download from the camera card or use it as a USB drive should I need one. They had variants for many different camera cards. It's called mediaGear XtraDrive.

Smartmedia????? What camera do you have? I dont know of any cameras that use SmartMedia cards.

Most use CF / SD /Memory Stick/xD. Are you sure its a smartmedia card?

According to MacTracker it could be 1.1 or 2.0 USB. Check your system profiler. Applications/Utilities/System Profiler. USB High Speed indicates USB 2.0

It could go either way, check your System Profiler, it should say High Speed.

Card readers are cheap, cheap, cheap, way under ten bucks.

He, he , he grinning smiley

Here is what BGnR was referring to. USB High Speed Bus indicates USB 2.0. if its just USB Bus, then its USB 1.1

I have a Lexar USB 2 reader that reads Smart Media, Compact Flash and SD. It should be fairly easy to find an inexpensive reader that can handle several types of media.

I dont know of any cameras that use SmartMedia cards.

Older Olympus P&S cameras use SmartMedia.

Thanks for the info ka jowct. Like the one pRON shipped with MiniLeader.
My first Digital Camera was a 2.0MegaPixel Panasonic. It used MMC and SD cards.

BGnR, some peeps need visuals. My SO is one of them, so I tend to use them most of the time. smiling smiley

Then you have USB 1.1. The USB card reader will work,
most USB 2.0 items are backwards compatible to USB 1.1 speeds.

You are better off getting a multi format card reader.
