Is there a way to wash them without damaging the veins, or is it better to take them to a dry cleaner? TiA

I found this:

"Washing corduroy pants to keep them looking new

Corduroy pants are very trendy but they tend to wear out quickly when they are washed more than a few times. But with special care, you can keep your cord pants - or jackets - looking like new for much longer.

When you wash them, always turn them inside out first. This will help prevent them from "de-fuzzing".

If they are brightly colored, add a few tablespoons of salt with the first wash. This will help keep the color brighter for longer."

Kap, washing your cords won't hurt them, though I do suggest what rgG says, turn them inside out. If you're in a thrift store one of these days, look at a pair there. The wear is on the top and the inside of the thighs, while the corduroy below the knee looks pretty new. People tend to run their hands down the top of the thighs while sitting, and the inside of the thighs gets worn down while walking. If the wear were caused in the washing machine, the part of the leg below the knee would be worn too.

Wash away!

I still remember the distinct sound they made when I wore them as a kid. You couldn't sneak up on anyone while wearing cords. smiling smiley

Line dry or dryer? I think the latter might cause color-fade, no?

Line-drying is more likely to fade the dyes with sunlight. They are casual cords, right? Wash them and throw them in the dryer. They are meant to be pretty care-free. Dyes are much faster these days than even 30 years ago.

"Astroboy" made a sound when he walked that reminded us of corduroy pants. I had forgotten that until I read this thread. :-D

Vwooop, vwooop, vwooop!

Yes, turn them inside out, wash them in a Gentle (which is usually a short) cycle, and dry them on Air or Fluff, which is usually sans any heat.

Wide whale cords. Hm.

You don't have any valour (sp) bell bottoms hiding in the closet, do ya?
