Newegg is a little scary sometimes...

I shop at Newegg often enough that I leave cookies enabled for that site.

Perused their UPS selection yesterday.

Today I got an email, "Recommended for YOU..." featuring nothing but UPSs.

So, they're stalking their customers. Interesting.

Sadly, none of the items that they were promoting had decent AVR and the prices were a bit over those at Amazon.

Nice try, tho.

So opt out of their e-mails.

Try leaving stuff in your shopping cart for a few days w/o buying it, then remove it... often you'll get a targeted email w/ coupon code for the item..., and if you're real lucky the item will go on sale at the same time so you can really score w/ sale and code. I play that game on non-critical items; sometimes it takes a few trips to the shopping cart to score a code, others only once or twice, and of course some stuff never shows up, but similar competing items will instead. Take newegg as a personal challenge, they're always a good benchmark.

I used MacRescue to eliminate tracking cookies, and one misclick on Amazon, and I'm getting Baby Crap
emails every day!

The only BABIES I want are like the new baby Hugh has.

BTW: Does anyone know any tricks to coaxing Newegg salespersons into price-matching?

Ah, Amazon thinks I like to read romance novels and watch chick flicks. Just 'cause I set my account to her Kindle account on her iPad, and downloaded a few bodice-rippers for her. Amazon never forgets... they still think I have a two year old, and keep recommending toddler stuff. The boy is almost a teenager now.

You can customize that.

Tell it to forget your history and disregard various purchases for recommendations.

I was granted a one-time exception for a price matching request I made on some RAM I bought from them last year. Their price went down a couple weeks after I bought it and I emailed customer service saying I heard they had a great price matching policy I would really appreciate it if they could help me out. They said they don't really do that, but they did give me a $15 store credit which was nice.

Nice that they were so responsive via email.

I sent them an inquiry last night. Fingers crossed. I prefer to give my business to vendors that I have a good history with.

Newegg has done right by me on a few occasions.

I'm staring at two sticks of netbook RAM that they sent me when I complained that the first shipment (of one stick) was held up. they sent the make-up order twice. reminds me that I should return it to them.

I'm not getting it from Newegg.

After waiting all day, I got a meaningless cut-and-paste response from them that had no relevance to my request for a price-match.

It was such an offensively stupid response that it looks like they're trying to lose my business.
