Verizon has ver. 3 correct and AT&T has 4? When 5 comes out, is Verizon expected to skip over 4 and go straight to 5?

They both have the iPhone 4, but the Verizon version is running a different version of the OS and gets its own firmware updates.

The iPhone 5 is supposed to unify the platforms.

...

AT&T also sells the iPhone 3GS at a big discount from the iPhone 4.

Verizon has no 3GS.

Yes, Verizon does have the iPhone 4. Keep in mind, on GSM (ATT) you can, SIMULTANEOUSLY use the phone AND web. On CDMA (Verizon) its an either or situation. I don't know if on the the iPhone 5, Verizon's LTE will overcome this limitation.

There have only been a few times where I wanted to access the web during a phone call but, those times it was important to have that ability.

There have only been a few times where that ability was important to me.

But there have also been many, many times where it was extremely convenient to have that ability. And sometimes it was a matter of *getting* a call while in the middle of doing something.

I'd be very annoyed and disappointed at not having that ability.

Also, do we know that the iP5 will have LTE? Rumor, educated guess, or reasoned certainty?

Or leaked intel?

The rumor is that LTE won't come to the platform until the iPhone 6 because there are several standards to reconcile; Verizon's limited LTE network would be swamped by the flood of iPhone users; and the current chips are big and inefficient which would make for very poor battery life and possibly a larger phone.

It's substantiated by recent statements from Tim Cook to the effect that the current generation of LTE chips aren't what Apple is looking for.

Yes, that's more like it, as I heard Tim say that in the last quarterly telephone report.
