How to find dead mouse (hopefully) in wall?

Here we go:
There is an extension on the back of our house that has started to get that dead rodent smell. We can't seem to pinpoint exactly where it's coming from. This room has a small crawl space underneath, and also has outlets in the floor. I removed both floor outlets expecting to be knocked out by the stench of dead something or other, but all I got was a face full of fresh air. Ground underneath seems undisturbed as well, which leads me to believe maybe a mouse died in a wall. Without ripping everything apart, is there a sniffer gadget or some way to determine where to look. Our cat has not been any help whatsoever. Oh yeah, we have houseflys now as well – those are fun.
TIA

Best bet is probably just to wait it out, unfortunately.

yeah, but with wife and 20 mos. old – that's not too easy. She of course read online that it could take weeks or months and she's convinced the smell will get our child sick or make him crave cheese constantly.

I think we have the same thing happen and if it is a mouse, the smell should subside pretty much, in a few days, or so.

Ditto rgG.
They dry up pretty quickly and it's not worth the expense and effort to rip a wall apart.
And the smell won't damage your child anymore than someone's fart will.

Did you previously date my wife?

In all seriousness, I hope it's a mouse. could be a squirrel. a stray cat. but it stinks.

Six or 7 days max.
Just deal with it until it goes away.

Lord knows that humans over the past 5000 decades have never had to endure the smell of a dead animal without becoming deathly ill. It's a wonder we haven't died off as a species.

See where the flies go to.
Also, seal any crack on the wall.

Yeah, can't seem to figure out where it's originating–not fom "tracking" the flys either.
