More importantly there are LOTS of 32-bit Core Duo Macs that will be unable to upgrade. I suppose those systems are now almost 5 years old but they are more than technically serviceable for everyday tasks as long as you're not trying to drive HD 1080p video or the real processor/graphics intensive stuff.

Dropping Core Duo is a logical progression. They tend to drop support for the oldest supported hardware with every update. The last one dropped by G4 and G5 support - that was much bigger than this.Quote
