What's the most recent OS I can load into this old boy?

and where can scare it up?

I have 10.5 but I don't think it'll run on this, I seem to remember trying before but it wouldn't "take"cartman smiley

I wouldn't try much beyond System six with 1.5 MB.

Most recent? Depends. Ubuntu x86 10 PPC or Leopard (10.5.x), depending on your needs. FWIW, I've installed both on a G4 Mini.

Assuming that's really 1.5GB, not MB.

Pretty sure 10.5 will run on it, but the installer might not let you install it due to the processor speed being below the minimum requirement, but if 10.5 were installed by another PowerPC Mac to the MDDs hard drive using target disk mode, it would likely boot. Make sure it uses Apple Partition Mode and not GUID.

9.2.2, and 10.1 - 10.4 should be fully supported.

I had 10.5 on my 933 QS - don't recall how much RAM but doubt it was more than 1.5. Still in use as the primary machine for a PC loving friend when his PC breaks down. I gave it to him this spring as a thank you for retrieving, for me, the Cube posted here in the forum a while back.
I seem to recall that I popped the drive out and put in in a FW case I had laying around to do the install from my MBP. Might also try to connect as a target and do it that way. I'm assuming it's not your only Mac.
Otherwise, Panther is running happily on my 450 Cube and on my 900 G3 iBook and on my 700 G3 iMac.

I've got 10.4.something on mine.
For whatever reason, had to install it on a new hard drive.
Original OS on the original drive, 10.4 on the Seagate.
I don't remember why, but it would only install on a smallish partition - kept paring down until the installer was happy.

10.5 will run on it, but 10.4.11 will probably be a happier camper

I'm using 10.5.8, Leopard on my powermac G4, 933 MGHz, Tiger on my Pismo, 400 MGHz fine. G4 has 640 GB RAM, Pismo has 1 GB. Working great.

1.5 GB Ram

I couldn't get 10.5 to load.

Can I get 10.4 from the Apple site or do I have to buy discs?

Thanks

You get to buy discs that cost more than the machine is worth.

You could probably find a Dual 1.25 MDD with 10.4 already on it from ebay or CL for about $100.

10.4 on the Sawtooth - 1.25 GB and the Cube- 1.5 GB. It will run just fine.

QS 867 with 1.5MB CL2 RAM installed and it runs 10.5.8 just fine.

The 1.2 GHz Cube next to it, also running 10.5.8, laughs and jeers at it for being bulky, loud, and slower. Damn uppity Cubes…

Both have a 10.4.11 partition just for OS 9 and shiggles. Just do it man!

10.5 should work fine. If the discs are legitimate retail, maybe Apple still can send you a replacement (Leopard is no longer offered for sale from Apple, but you never know).

10.5 wil; run. but stick to 10.4.11 unless you need some features in 10.5. With 10.5 the machine will feel a bit slower compared to 10.4.11

Also stick with 10.4 if you don't enjoy jumping through hoops just to use the fonts YOU want to use.

I have 10.5 on one drive in my mostly retired MDD 867. As I recall, it was OK, didn't feel sluggish, but I didn't do any work with it.
