A question regarding my Verizon cell plan.

I have a single iPhone 4 under contract. Started on July 2011.

Is it possible to add a 2nd phone without it changing the terms of the contract?

For example, I have the unlimited data plan. I would like to purchase a 2nd iPhone for my wife and add it to my plan.

No, you would effectively 'change' the contract to a friends and family. Now... if you're talking 'unlimited data'... well, you can reasonably expect them to find a way to screw you out of that in June ,2013. So , maybe. For a while. But not for the Mrs.

Kind of a bummer.

Yeah, I expect after my contract is up that the unlimited data plan will fade away.

It would be nice if Sprint kept their unlimited data plan and maybe that would put pressure on AT&T and Verizon to bring unlimited data back?

Actually, I asked a similar question not that long ago - I have a Verizon personal plan with a smart phone (no, no iPhone for me - got the smart phone before Verizon added the iPhone) and the unlimited data.

The verizon rep told me that I could add a line by switching to a friends and family plan and not lose the unlimited data for my phone.

I wouldn't be able to add the unlimited data on the new phone though.

No problem. Your contract covers the features on your phone. You have an unlimited data feature that you had before you got that iPhone. You can change your plan without affecting the contract: change minutes, change texting, add another line (which then has its own contract). A new line will have its own data feature, currently $30 for 2GB. I know, because I sell VerizonWireless. If a shady sales person tells you that your data feature will change if you add a line, they are lying to you.

Edit: timg has it it right.
