A flip phone went through the washing cycle. Is the SIM card damaged too?

Very doubtful that it is hurt, but there is a small chance if the phone was on during the contact of water and there was any electrical 'zap'. Still, likely it is okay.

Just make sure it dries out (several hours to overnight...just to make sure) before you test it in another phone.

Also rinse it aggressively in clean water. Soaps from clothes washers (and dishwashers) leave a film of contaminant that can degrade contacts.

(And don't feel bad.. most of us have had it happen at least once.)

It wasn't my phone or clothes so I had no idea it was left in the pocket. I am just glad it wasn't an iPhone.

Top loader or front loader ?

:-)

Give it a chance to dry out even though they are supposed to be fairly resistant to getting wet as any circuit trace can become an effective fuse and the minerals in water help to make it a rather effective conductor.

...Give it a chance to dry out...

By far the easiest way to do this is to toss it into the clothes dryer for an hour or so...just use the "gentle" cycle, and you should be good to go...

Uhm.. SD.. I do not recommend that. I assume you were being sarcastic ? I'd recommend silica gel, a ziplog bag, and a sunny spot for a day. Alternatively an unopened bag of rice, a ziplog bag, and a sunny spot.

I ran a USB thumb drive through a wash cycle and part of the drying till I heard it rattle around the dryer. I waited a couple of days, plugged it in and it worked perfectly and all data was intact.

I didn't know the rice trick back then.

I assume none of you guys are trying to revive the phone itself.

OK, the SIM card worked the first time. You are now free to wash your SIMs.
