Since this section seems to have more traffic, and the occasional OT is tolerated here, just thought I'd let y'all know.

Wowsers. Just wow. What a year. I'll be glad to see 2005 go away.

Though hurricane season 2006 is just a short bit away.

Nope, Guitarman; check out skeetobiteweather (link above) -- it's for real. What a bizarre year.

So, what names now? Do they pick a TV show and start naming it after the characters?

Zeta's the sixth letter in the Greek alphabet, not the last. They've got 18 letters left if needed.

Guitarman, I assume that are talking about Hurricane Vince.

Hurricane Faith actually struck Scandinavia as a tropical storm in 1966.

recorded history is not a very long period of time.

If a storm forms and no one records it, did it happen ?

I 'think' precedents for all of this has been set before. However, at the time they occurred (and correct me if I'm wrong), they seemed to be isolated incidents in an otherwise normal hurricane season and as such, could be spun off as anomalies (not sure of my use of that word is correct).

What's unusual now is how all of this occurred in one one season. Furthermore, this season 'seems' to be in line with a pattern of escalating events from previous seasons.

We've had periods of 'high hurricane cycles' before (2 or 3 during the span or record keeping), but none seem to have come close to the past several seasons worth of activity.

1954
Hurricane Alice was the only Atlantic hurricane on record whose duration spanned two calendar years. It formed northeast of the Lesser Antilles in late December 1954, and dissipated over the southeastern Caribbean Sea in early January 1955, causing only minor damage.

Tropical Storm Zeta is expected to dissapate in 72 hours.

5 December hurricanes in 120 years

Nice to have satellites to spot these storms that otherwise could go undetected/unreported, eh?
