safari problem

All of the text is itty bitty and all of the graphics are humongous.

Go back into your Time Machine and restore Safari preferences from a date where this was not a problem.

Try pressing ctrl+scrolling on the mouse wheel, or ctrl+'+' or '-' on the number pad on your keyboard. If you're using a laptop, then ctrl+the two-finger scroll on the touchpad should work.
