Apple is close to finally updating the Mac Pro. The previous issues we mentioned will be fixed by major changes that suppliers are introducing. What changes are they? What is the expected timeframe? Read on to find out!
You will remember we covered the Mac Pro story some months previous here, telling you guys the new Mac Pro will use a new processor, but there are issues that were holding it back from fulltime production.
Well, we have some good news, Intel will be moving to its Ivy Bridge platform in April, and this will solve heating issues.
...Nvidia has their “Kepler” platform due out around the same time as Intel is making their changes, and our sources within the company indicate that they have chosen to have Nvidia lead the charge so to speak on the graphics front.

Call me superficial, but I wish they'd put some effort in a new case design. Didn't the current look come out in 2003?

Yeah, I know it matt. That's why I only bought the $250 used one. In reality, I won't be buying a MacPro; I just did like the one I had. For me, ANY Mac made will do what I need.

I'd be more excited if there was news about a compact, expandable desktop.
Like the ones they used to make.
Not a expensive behemoth like the Pro.
Goldilocks cries at Apple's fail.

It will be tough to improve on what they have now. I love the way it looks. It's a beautiful tower. And the current iteration of the Mac Pro case is the nicest Mac case I've ever worked with, in terms of the ease with which drives and RAM can be added. Presumably cards are no big deal to add, either, I just haven't done that yet.

Sure you could pay extra for Apple to redesign the case but really there is not much to improve on. It's not like they are vying for the case-modder segment of the market. A MacPro is a MacPro. Not saying a new design wouldn't be nice; it might give everyone another reason to want to upgrade but for people who just put it under their desk and get to work, it doesn't matter what it looks like.

Cards are super easy to add or remove as they use thumbscrews inside the case instead of phillips screws.

I haven't often lost one of those Philips screws inside a computer, but on those few occasions, it has been beyond annoying trying to retrieve them (they are very good at scurrying way under the logic board or some other unreachable spot).

I lost the screw that secures the fan assembly to the mobo when I was replacing my processors. I had to pick up that beast and shake it around to get the screw to fall out. Those things are heavy.
