RIP Peter Bergman, founding member of the Firesign Theater

from [firesigntheatre.com]

"We are very sad to report that Peter Bergman, a founding member of the Firesign Theatre and the driving force behind Radio Free Oz in all its incarnations, passed away in the early morning hours of Friday, March 9, 2012 due to complications from leukemia."

Will leave it others to include quotes. I'm taking off my shoes and listening to "I Think We're All Bozos On This Bus."

I saw Proctor/Bergman live at UCLA in the mid 70's. Bozos was their first album and may be their best, I spent too many hours listing to it with my headphones on the only way to listen to them. Another genius will be missed!

R.I.P. Mr. Bergman.

Funny/sad:

"This is a line of Indians leaving Rancho Malaria, to make room for YOU. And here is the beautiful Trail of Tears Golf Course, conveniently located adjacent to the Custer Memorial Indian School and Cobalt Testing Range... and there's hamburger all OVER the highway in Mystic, Connecticut."

I almost hate to say this, but he got the REALLY BIG disease.

Used to listen to them all the time.

Under the rumble seat. Want a snort?

(I had no idea one could buy Ralph Spoilsport license plate frames on the site. Cool!)

Sadly, there's now one less Bozo on this bus :-(

FWIW: "Bozos" was their 4th LP, preceded by "Waiting For The Electrician or Someone Like Him," "Don't Crush That Dwarf, Hand Me The Pliers" and "How Can You Be In Two Places At Once (When You're Not Anywhere At All)."

After Bozos, they took a break and Proctor & Bergman released "TV or Not TV" and toured behind that.

I believe I'll come in out of the cornstarch and dry my mukluks by the fire, then have a lovely beverage and pull them out of the cellophane before they scorch.

We were sitting around a board room and the Head Office wanted to test their videoconferencing setup. The VP asked "Do you have anyone there that could just talk non-stop for half an hour?" Everyone looked at me, and I said I could do forty-five minutes. Without further explanation, I launched into:

"Los Angle-es, he walks again by night. Out of the fog ... into the smog.
Relentlessly. Ruthlessly ... 'I wonder where Ruth is?' …Doggedly … 'arf, arf, arf'!"

I had no idea I could do such a good Catherwood, or that Rocky Rococo voice. It was a blast, and I had all these three-piece suit-types cracking up.

Another reasons I'll miss 1/4 of Firesign:

I've got a friend who works in Public Radio in LA. Proctor and/or Bergman used to drop in during pledge drives, unannounced, just to do some improv... and they always boosted donations.
