Russell Brand's 'tribute' to Steve Jobs memory.

Russell Brand was NOT arrested for a misdemeanor yesterday ... turns out it was a FELONY, and the late Steve Jobs may be to blame.

We did some digging and just found out ... in Louisiana property damage that exceeds $500 triggers a felony arrest.

You'll recall, Brand allegedly snatched a photog's iPhone Monday night and hurled it through a plate glass window.  The iPhone alone costs more than $500.

Here's the irony ... Russell tweeted a few days ago, "Since Steve Jobs died I cannot bear to see anyone use an iPhone irreverently, what I did was a tribute to his memory."

Steve Jobs famously believed he could charge a lot for the iPhone -- and did.  And now Russell is paying dearly for it.

The felony -- simple criminal damage -- is punishable by a maximum of 2 years in prison.

Now prosecutors must decide whether to go forward and file felony charges.

Stay tuned...

Toss enough dough to the right lawyers and he will walk away unscathed. Russell Brand 'aint exactly destitute. He'll be fine.

True enough. I enjoy his work, and have watched him in various interviews. He's very witty, and charming too!

Russell Brand? Didn't he do that awful remake of "Arthur?" He should be deported for that, forget about the iPhone.

I originally read the story on my USA today online app, but I couldn't link to their story, so the TMZ version was the first other one I found. smiling smiley

IIRC, he achieved fame in the UK by being spectacularly creepy.

Russell Brand seems not remarkably different than some guy who works at the 7-11. Not clear why he's considered a celebrity in the first place.

Wow! I can't believe so many of you don't like him. What has he done to cause all of this consternation? Seriously, I hadn't heard of anything he's done to warrant such contempt. Clue me in, eh? Maybe I'll not like him too.

And about the remake of Arthur, well, yeah, that one WAS a stinker. It may have been because it was a poor script or badly produced, and not necessarily because RB had the starring role. He has done some other films that were much better.

I'll say this, IMO, he's better than some of our so called domestic "entertainers". I'll watch Russell Brand performing instead of say, Larry the Cable Guy. That idiot makes me want to barf smiley
