Who's lived somewhere other than the U.S.A. and for how long?

Voodoo, you can play too :-)
Just curious . . . caught a note from someone on another thread mentioning that they lived in Japan in the early 90s and got to wondering how many of the forum critters have had extended out-of-country experiences.

3 months in Switzerland in the mid-90s.

In my fifth year of living in Paris right now.

The first foreign country I really lived in was Hawaii, though. Seriously. It is not like living in the continental 48. Stationed there for 4 years in my early 20s.

I lived in london for six months and hiked through the british countryside for six weeks. (by the end of it, it certainly felt like a lifestyle)

my girlfriend has irish citizenship. i'm hoping that we can cash that in after she graduates from architecture school.

Very straightforward, UK for the whole of my 60+ years. In fact England for the whole of that which means I've hardly moved at all.

Lived in the Sultanate of Oman (working for Petroleum Development Oman - PDO) from March 1992 through November 1995 and in the Netherlands (working for Nederlands Aardolie Maatschappij - the NAM and Shell International Petroleum - SIPM) from January 1996 through October 1998. During those seven years we visited 30 countries, some of them, such as Germany, several times.

I was on loan from Shell US. While in Oman, wife was the training manager for Apple Centre Oman and later was the Mac support person for PDO. The Mac was the PC of choice for both PDO's publications department and the various government ministries due to its superior support for typing Arabic.

Lived for a summer in Italy on a studies abroad program while in college.

I almost moved to Iran during the late 60's, as a kid with my mom and dad. My dad worked for a U.S. telecommunications company that had a big contract with the Shah, and they wanted him to go for a year or two. Dad and I were down with the idea, but mom decided that she just wasn't up for that.

That same company did move us all over the U.S. though. I went to 17 different schools before I graduated from high school. When I was young, we moved an average of three times a year. Just call me a gypsy. smiling smiley

Born in Malta, where I alternated with England for a few years (I only remember scraps), then England until my mid-teens, with a couple of year stint in Scotland, then emigrated to California.

India for 5 years and England for 2 years.

Of course all of that was before I hit age 7.

Oh, and 2 weeks in Japan.. though it was more of a long business trip than "living" there.

Mexico, several times for a week or two, except once when we got stuck for an extra week, so we were there for three weeks. Canada a couple of times for about a week each.

Or do vacations not count as "living"?

Haiti for two months in 2002 and 2003 and two months in Guam during 2008 and 2009 during Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. While in Haiti made the road trip to Santo Domingo. What a contrast between The Dominican Republic and Haiti. It's hard to believe they share the same island.

I spent six months as an au-pair girl In France when I was in college.

I was in the Peace Corps in Togo West Africa and the mid 70s for two years and then spent about seven months traveling the world to get back home.

Lots of vacation travel when I spent five weeks in different countries like Italy, France or the Cook Islands in the South Pacific.
