have an internal Hitachi that is not a boot drive, but a back up rec'd drive.

It is exhibiting bad sectors, (stops on playback of one particular bad track) I can't hear any clicking, but I have yet to put it an external enclosure to "listen" to it.

Provided it isn't clicking, I seem to remember, way back, that there was an app that could map and block bad sectors, or am I badly mistaken?

I learned something from the linked article. If you recall the thread you were referencing, nobody was able to come up with anything approaching evidence that zeroing mapped bad blocks.
