These signature collectors

Last week there was a group of signature collectors hanging around the community college campus where I am employed. They were a mismatched bunch. However, they shared some commonalities: aggressive (as in harassing) in getting info and signatures from students and passerby; each had at least 4 clipboards of various petitions. None would answer any basic questions such as who the sponsors were and what the causes were for the petitions. All I got was, "Just put your name, home address, email and signature." There were loud squabbles among them over territories and who got the 'client' first. What were the incentives? I wondered as I walked away from the 'circus'.

You'd think the college kids would wise up to this, and what it says about the state of politics in California...

Oh, those kids are FUN! A discussion always ensues when they arrive to speak to me, as I proceed to educate them on their issue. It's important to properly explain reality to callow and opinionated youth.

I've been stopped a few times (although not recently) by people claiming to be soliciting donations for causes that would elicit a lot of sympathy from most people. They wanted quite a bit of personal info. I suspect that they were trying to collect enough info to get access to people's money. In any case, I would never give any personal info to someone canvassing on the street.

Those 'kids' are in their 30s at the very least.
