That's a creative eagle. I once saw a hawk trying to get a large fish that was trapped in shallow water try over and over to grab it and take off. He didn't try swimming it to shore and eventually gave up.

BUT I also once saw a hawk that was soaked head to toe. He was so wet that he couldn't do anything to keep me from approaching. I never understood how he could have gotten so wet... but this video may help to explain...

Very cool footage, thanks! I once watched an osprey grab a fish that was a little too big to pull from the water. He was swept through some rapids, but was finally able to make it to a gravel bar, where he readjusted his hold and was able to fly away.

No living room. I was told the video was shot at a wildlife refuge near Baton Rouge (I forget the name).

If the cars miss the nuts, the birds sometimes hop back and put them somewhere else on the road. Or they sit on electricity wires and drop them in front of vehicles.

"Can a Bald Eagle swim?

A. Great question. Absolutely. They are very good swimmers, and I've even seen older nestlings who can't fly yet swim. It's not uncommon for an eagle to "misjudge" and latch into a fish too heavy/large for it to fly with, so they then may swim quite a distance to shore (wouldn't want to let go of lunch now would we), drag the fish up on shore and then eat it."

On a harbor tour in Vancouver, the entertaining captain-guide pointed out two docks, one wooden, one concrete. The concrete one was littered with shells, but not the wooden one. Why? Because, he said, the seagulls learned that if they dropped the shells on the concrete dock they would break, but not if they dropped them on the wooden one. Smart birds.

If you want to see how intelligent a bird can be, let one keep you as a pet.

After twenty-two years of living with a Goffins Cockatoo I've seen, time after time, the cleverness and decision making capability of this little creature.

Added benefit, she cracks me up, all the time.

One game she loves to play, and she'll play it for hours while lying on her side or standing on my chest as I watch TV, is called "anting." She has these 1" plastic rings that I got her to play with and she will toss them up in the air or hide them under her wing until they finally disappear of the bed . She then turns to me with a look, "well, Daddy?" I then have to hunt them down and start the game again.

Recently, because the supply of rings had dwindled, I bought 25 more assorted colored rings on eBay. After experimenting a bit I've learned that Precious has a "favorite color." It's green, but not just any green, it has to be the right shade!

I can only say that, next time you are looking for an animal companion, you could have 50, 60 years of fun and surprises with a baby Goffins.
