Skywatchers across the Chicago area reported seeing a streaking fireball in Wednesday night’s sky so intense that some thought they had witnessed a fiery plane crash on the city’s southeast side.
Reports of the fireball began coming in about 8:25 p.m., according to a meteor and meteorite sighting blog, lunarmeteoritehunters.blogspot.com, with more than 100 people from Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan and Iowa reporting the light show.

I'm in Michigan and saw it while driving home. It was due west, fairly low on the horizon and looked to be traveling east to west (and very, very slightly north). Definitely the brightest meteor I have seen and, yes, it turned green at the end. Very impressive display.
