Lightroom 4 upgrade

I got my serial number from Adobe last night for the free update. hot smiley

I got Lightroom 3 for $69 from B&H.

what does Lightroom do exactly? I do not have Photoshop, I have Photoshop Elements. I also have Pixelmator. is Lightroom of any use without full Photoshop?

Lightroom is more of an image management program. It's very different than Photoshop or Pixelmator. It's kind of like Aperture, or iPhoto on steroids. You can do non destructive edits, and then export what you've edited for printing or posting to the web etc. I find it vastly more useful that Photoslop.

I bought Lightroom 3 just before V4 was released. I guess that Adobe has some policy that allows people who buy something within a certain time window of a new product release to get the new version for free. Others here got the same deal.
