Has anyone made one? I'd like to replace the icon on my desktop from a generic hard drive to a picture of the SSD.

It's addictive!

Once I discovered how to do desktop icons, depicting accurate representations of various disks, I HAD to make every single hard drive I have appear that way. On every computer. The generic HD icon? Bah! It actually helps me immediately recognize the HD, visually, instead of by name. Really useful. So, a good use of time, I say.

ok, how does one change the icon on the boot drive? I copied the icon and went to paste it in the Get Info window for the SSD, but it wouldn't paste. Looking further down on the Get Info window, it says "You can only read". The boot drive is owned by "system".

Inspired by this thread:

Anyone know:
-what the home and net folders are?
-how to get rid of "WD SmartWare?"

Is that unique to SSD boot drives? First I've seen of it. I didn't run into that barrier. (My boot drive is a hybrid) I was able to alter the icon.

Did rz click the lock at the bottom of the window?
I had no trouble changing the icon on my SSD last night.
My, aren't we curious about SSDs today :-)

Well, yes! I thought simply installing the latest coolest fast new HD (in a Mac Mini, already a precision chore involving magic spoons and nano-screwdrivers) was the glory destination. The promised land.

But no!

only one step in the path to enlightenment. Now I find it's only part of the equation, In order to be sit at the Cook Kid's Table, it appears one has to completely reinstall their OS and change their computer around to suit the new HD, in order to appreciate the speed gains.

What?

I miss the old days, when just installing the latest fastest hard drive took care of al that. And didn't require a special boot drive install, too.
