As I understand it, the camera normally sells for at least $160 and the photo paper for about $10.

Good deal for the camera, but it's the "if you want it..." that's on the mark...The camera is kind of a catch all, that attempts to do many things, but ends up being a master of none. It's nice for what it is, but if a user has specific wants or needs, it likely won't fill them. OTOH, for a novice that doesn't know enough to know what they want, it will probably do everything they need.

That's pretty much what this one is...
Canon makes pocket size P&S's w/ bigger zooms, or better optics, or better sensors, or better digital processors, etc. for users that have discernible preferences. The SX150 has a little bit of everything, but doesn't have the leading/bleeding edge of anything. Yep, an everyday carry camera.

What I meant was, this camera doesn't really belong in any P&S niche category, but rather in the two broader P&S categories of everyday carry and novice.
