That list is kind of hard to read but I think I only know 5 of them.
But then I'm old, so it doesn't really mean anything.
"The War on Drugs" is a great name for a band, btw.

36, I've heard of. Probably half of that, I've heard the music.

Black Keys, black Sabbath, the Shins, Afghan Whigs, Die Antwoord, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Franz Ferdinand, Santigold, Alabama Shakes, Jack White, Sigur Ros,
Actually Heard:
Shins, Die Antwoord, Chili Peppers, Franz Ferdinand, Alabama Shakes,Sigur Ros.

Die Antwoord has lasted at least a year longer than I thought they would. And I liked them but thought their schtick would get old pretty quickly.


Be here now. Be someplace else later. Is that so complicated?

A better question would be how many do I know and feel would be worth seeing. A few.

To be even more critical, I could break it down to how many would I feel worth seeing in a festival setting... wow, that's a tough one.

We have a free "new music Monday" series at our beautiful new bandshell downtown.
Most of the music is not new-- the main criteria seems to be "rock bands some people have heard of but that aren't big enough to be crowd control problems."

One lineup was The Head and The Heart with Iron and Wine.
Unfortunately, both bands had breakthrough somgs that got airplay between the time they were signed and the concert. It was a disaster, and they had to come up with a whole bunch of new crowd control protocols for subsequent shows (they hand't had or needed head counts or hand stamping prior).

Here's The Head and the Heart's "breakthrough" song.

I'd be most interested in The Shins personally (can't get enough of Simple Song) followed by the usual mainstream "names"-- Chilis, Franz, maybe Dawes, Florence.
Also-- have you all seen Walk Off The Earth's "viral" Gotye cover?

I got dragged to a Black Sabbath concert about 15 years ago and actually fell asleep during the music...
