On This 20th Anniversary of the LA Riots
Posted by: Dazed & Confused

I was here when the whole thing happened, crazy time is an understatement. I was viewing some photos online and this one caught my attention. The man just sitting there like he's waiting for a bus while the building behind him smolders.

The whole situation forever changed my view on gun control.

Note: I hope this is appropriate for Tips & Deals. Mods, please move to the "other side" if you feel it warrants. Thanks.

So what is your view on gun control, and in which way did the riots change it?

I'll stay "mum" on that one. That subject is a can of worms I'd rather not open.

It made me realize that in wide area crises like that, the police are as likely to be the enemy of the law abiding as they are to be the friend of the law abiding.

I remember passing a burned down bank on Western Ave and people were lined up in an orderly fashion taking turns with a sledge hammer having whacks at an ATM machine.

great images!!

I'm so old and so lacking in time reference that in reading the title, I assumed we were talking about the 'Watts Riots' from the mid 60s.

So - how many LAPD "Officers" were ever given citations for fleeing from the rioting?

Without any qualification or edification, that's a completely dumbass statement.

Ranks right down their with the dumbass at dealchat who said that first responders to the Twin Towers weren't heroes; they only responded because they were paid to.

I would hazard a guess that there are more than a few Korean store owners who would disagree with that sentiment...

SD Guy,

From my understanding, the police were ordered by their commanders to evacuate, they didn't run away. You need to do a little more research for this particular instance before you condemn the police.

Here's the one I always think about, the truck dragged from his truck and beaten, I believe he was also beaten
with a brick.

While remembering the tragedies like Reginald Denny it's also good to remember the hero who saved his life, Bobby Green, jr.
