This is why I love Canon printers

bought a Canon MP560 on Black Friday 2010 (best buy, $50). Set it up, used it every once in a while when wife wants to print a color photo that son needs for school the next day. Other than that it sits idle. lately I haven't used it much, I guess it's been 3-4 months since we used it. turned it on, expecting clogged nozzles, guess what? run the test, all nozzles clear, now printing something. These are still original cartridges, about 1/2 full.

before that I had a i960 which was also solid, and when I had an occasional clog (after cartridge died in printer when unused for 2 full years) I was able to rescue it.

even earlier I had an epson, Stylus 740i IIRC. Now that clogged about once a month

have my old i960 lying on a table, unused for the last 5 years. I should fire it up to see what'll happen. last i recall, it was not responding for some reason. i stil have lots of 8x10 paper to print on, so I should use some of that, at the least.

As opposed to my Brother 440 AIO, which stopped printing blue a couple of years ago; no amount of running the head-cleaning routine would make it work.

If it didn't serve as a fax machine, into the dumpster it would go.

Finally gave up on Epsons and bought a Pro9000 a couple of years ago and don't miss the nozzle cleaning at all. If I have a complaint it's that I'd like more ink in the cartridges. I use the Canon brand because I print photos and the 3rd party inks are not the same so it's more costly.

I still use my i960 but there will come a day when the bottom ink waste catcher will fill up and it'll stop working. I've done a little proactive research on how to fix it but it involves taking most of it apart down to the core only to replace the pad with paper towels or some such, which won't absorb as much ...

Had the same issue with an Epson 1280. Thought the printer was broken and Epson says nothing about it shutting down because of the waste catcher. Almost bought a new printer which was Epson's (and maybe Canon's) idea.
That should be a consumer replaceable item.

I like my MP970, 250 too. I wish it was easy to get Canon lasers in America. I had a Canon laser in Japan and it was great.
