As Bison Return to Prairie, Some Rejoice, Others Worry

WOLF POINT, Mont. — Sioux and Assiniboine tribe members wailed a welcome song last month as around 60 bison from Yellowstone National Park stormed onto a prairie pasture that had not felt a bison’s hoof for almost 140 years.

That historic homecoming came just 11 days after 71 pureblood bison, descended from one of Montana’s last wild herds, were released nearby onto untilled grassland owned by a charity with a vision of building a haven for prairie wildlife. Some hunters and conservationists are now calling for bison to be reintroduced to a million-acre wildlife refuge spanning this remote region.

Also better for the prairie itself. Their hooves aerate the turf, and make it more viable.

"""After seeing two Park Service rangers last Wednesday and learning that they were doing a recon into the Park, we had suspected that something more was coming for the buffalo. Thursday morning the Montana Department of Livestock's (DOL) helicopter arrived, along with nine horsemen from all five Interagency Bison Management Plan state and federal agencies, complete with law enforcement. The agents had assumed that wild buffalo had returned to the Denny Creek/South Fork region of the Madison River, around the lands of the anti-buffalo Povah family. They intended to use the nine horsemen and helicopter to haze buffalo into Yellowstone National Park. The DOL's helicopter swooped over the region, disrupting wildlife and human inhabitants, but found no buffalo to harass. After wasting thousands of federal tax dollars, the DOL's buffalo harassment circus was called to a halt for the day. The agents left town, leaving everyone here to a quiet weekend""".

Eggactly the problem ignorant buttheads wasting tax dollars and countermanding the environmental efforts. If the Bison had a lawyer the lawsuit would be amusing. Perhaps the Bison require the
aid of rocket launchers *(:>* Just saying we want it to be a fair fight devil smiley

The rednecks in Montana deserve to be trashed just like they are trashing the Bison and wolves.
You can not edumacate them as they are too hard headed and stooopid.

Innovative ways have been used to repel Elephants from crops in Africa.
They also hang Beehives on the fencing around the crops.

I bet there are alternatives to killing and harassing the Bison.

Beehive Fences Help African Elephants and Farmers Not Hate Each Other

Furadan is a powerful poison. A quarter of a teaspoon can kill a human. African farmers and ranchers are using it to kill lions and elephants that threaten their crops and herds. Luckily, it is under review to be banned in Kenya, but that won't do much to stop people from using it. Even organizations trying out buy-back programs with ranchers are seeing little success. What might turn them around, however, are ideas for using effective natural fencing. One idea being tested out with success is a fence made of beehives. How the Bee Fence WorksThe University of Oxford reports that a fence made of beehives strung together by wires has been shown to be effective against elephants that have become a nuisance by raiding farmers' crops.
