Looking for the equivalent of Unix "Touch" CMM plug-in...

For as long as we've been able to right click on the mac to get a contextual menu I've thought it would be great if it was possible to create a new blank text file, similar to the way one can create a new empty folder (directory).

The reason is that it seems simpler to point to a location, click to create an empty text file, and then click again to open it in a default editor.

This saves finding the editor first, opening the editor, choosing the save command, and then navigating to wherever you want to save it which can take a little thinking and then typing a name and clicking save button.

For snippets of text it seems a "touch" command would be so much quicker and easier.

Anyone know of a plug-in that allows this functionality under 10.6/10.7?

Thanks.

One of the features I've always loved in Windows (right-click -> New -> Text file) that Apple had never implemented and it so useful. I use it every day.

That's exactly what I'm looking for. And it sounds like you understand why.

I haven't played with AppleScript in a long time, but if you could somehow write a script to "create a new text file in the selected window", you could install FinderPop (which is also quite useful as a launcher) and add it to the FinderPop Extras folder to make it available in a contextual menu.

This article discusses using Applescript & Automator to create a "Services" shortcut - sounds similar to what you want. LyleH

In looking at the options mention I came across this article which work perfectly.

Would be nice not to have it run as a script, but I'll take it since it works. Thanks, again!
