I bought it here at work with the 18-135mm kit lens, replacing my Nikon 5700 and it is a really nice for my product photography but a little inconvenient when shooting at company events due to two points mentioned in the dpreview conclusion:

Slow AF in Live Mode reduces benefit of articulated screen for stills shooting
White balance often excessively orange under artificial light

I was just reading that there are several AF modes that can be used in live view that might help with the slow AF but haven't had time to check further. I've also encountered the same slow AF with the D7 in live view.

I find it interesting that my SX40 can shoot so much faster in live view than either of these higher end cameras. Not sure if it is my lack of experience or the cameras themselves.

Yeah, the LCD is probably more for video, AF with mirror up on most SLR sucks.

I have gotten pretty good with manual focus when I shoot video, it keeps it from jumping in and out of range when shooting video.

Could be the lenses used also.

This is a great deal on a wonderful camera - buyers should note, Canon is most likely clearing stock before the T4i announcement which is supposed to be imminent. If that sort of thing is important to you.

IMHO, we are at a point where the feature list really can't be vastly improved on. Only the AF for the live view and video mode I guess.

BTW T2i and T3i can be hacked by firmware to have dozens of camcorder features added [magiclantern.wikia.com]

What have you heard about the forthcoming T4i (why don't we just call it the 650D like the rest of the world)?

That 18MP is getting a little "long in the tooth." Plenty of resolution, but its noise levels are higher than the competition and the dynamic range has fallen well behind what cameras with Sony-based sensors produce.

I would love to see Canon produce an APS-C camera with comparable DR and industry-leading low noise levels. 16-20MP would be plenty.

dpreview info leads me to believe it is just the nature of the camera but I have the 18-135mm lens instead of the 18-55mm and I believe the D7 I shot with also had a 18-135mm so maybe you have a point. Unfortunatelt the progressive glasses I wear make it very difficult to shoot with the view finder and I tend to shoot with live view except when outside in bright sun light.

Nothing concrete, but multiple rumor sources saying it's coming this summer. Maybe that's just because the rumor sites were off on their original spring prediction.

Canon takes its sweet time in releasing anticipated new products - like the 5DmIII which had been expected for a year or two before release, the new 24-70 which was also expected for over a year, and we still don't have anything more than rumors for a Canon mirrorless entry.

The T1/2/3/4i series though, is Canon's highest selling line of DSLRs so you can bet they won't let it stagnate. I'd be surprised if it wasn't available before summer vacation season...
