Carpet and pets

New landlords have taken over our duplex and jacked up the rent. We are in a hurry to find a place. Found one with carpet floor. Our small mutts are well-trained but they do have accidents. Is there some type of floor cover we can use over carpet? Not that we are expecting to get the $500 cleaning deposit back.

Most do. Few have wood floor. Even fewer with tiles. Since we own pets we never care for carpet flooring.

With the summer blistering heat is so many areas of SoCal, I can't imagine why anyone would want carpet flooring, especially where pets involved. Having said that, carpet is the least expensive floor covering.

Its cheaper to replace carpet than to refinish wood or replace tiles.

Being a landlord, what I don't understand is why so many people who rent have pets. Every time our place goes up for rent, we get a ton of inquiries if we'll accept pets. Nope, sorry. Been there, done that. Currently in a dispute with the last tenant whose dogs caused quite a bit of damage. Most of the door frames had to be sanded down and repainted, as well as several baseboards. One of the bedroom doors also had to be replaced. The place was also infested with fleas when they left, which is odd because there isn't a scrap of carpet for them to hide in. They claim they bombed the house before they left, but when we went by a couple of weeks later, we got eaten alive. We now have a no pet policy.

Buy plastic runners at Walmart and cover carpet areas or buy area rugs to cover the carpet.

perhaps because satisfying an emotional need such as having a pet shouldn't be dependent upon property ownership.

of course, it really pisses me off that these kinds of horror stories give us responsible pet owners a bad name.

AGREE!!!
We have pets and our place is much cleaner than ones rented by renters with no pets.

Being a landlord, what I don't understand is why so many people who rent smoke cigarettes. Every time our place goes up for rent, we get a ton of inquiries if we'll accept smokers. Nope, sorry. Been there, done that. Currently in a dispute with the last tenant whose smoke and ash caused quite a bit of damage. Most of the door frames had to be sanded down and repainted, as well as several baseboards. One of the bedroom doors also had to be replaced. The walls were also saturated with odors when they left. They claim they cleaned the house before they left, but when we went by a couple of weeks later, we choked on the fumes. We now have a no smokers policy.

rz,

The flea infestation in a home without carpeting isn't odd at all. Wood/tile/etc flooring won't prevent flea infestation. Even being a non-pet owner doesn't prevent flea infestation. There are countless ways for fleas to get into a home and many of them have nothing to do whatsoever with pets. It can be as easy as walking across a lawn and bringing them with you into your home.

Using a bug bomb or two isn't going to remove a flea infestation. Possibly a teensy minor one but it's unlikely. Fleas are tiny and can hide _anywhere_ in a home. They can survive for a long time without food. The only way to remove an infestation is to use the appropriate tools and follow proper procedures. Otherwise, you won't kill all the fleas and they will return. Guaranteed.

That is considered discrimination in CA.

space-time,
There are many ways to fulfill one's emotional needs that has nothing to do with any species.
