PSA: Keep a current backup
Posted by: john dough

I am remodeling my office this week and one of my external hard drives, the one that contains my iTunes media, was knocked off the desk and hit the floor. It will not even start up now and I am bummed that it is not working, yet I backed up the drive just yesterday, so all of my music/movies/books, some of which is irreplaceable (home movies, recordings of my friend's band, etc), was not lost.

BACK UP YOUR DATA FOLKS; hard drives are relatively cheap, your time and memories are not.

(/soapbox).

Yep-backed up! But it's worth the periodic reminder.

And if you can, back it up to more than one drive/storage location. Nothing would be worse than losing data, but not worrying because you have a backup, and then discovering that your only backup is hosed.

If you can handle two drives, swap them out periodically, and keep one at a friend's house, at work, at your parent's house, in a safe deposit box, etc.

Exactly what I do. Just don't do it often enough!
