Got a broken iPhone 4S screen in the family... options?

Apple party line is a $199 replacement, apparently. I've read that Genius Bar guys will give free replacements if they're so inclined (I suspect this happens a lot more often for female customers, just call me cynical if you must).

Any other suggestions? There are plenty of non-Apple shops advertising repairs around here...

Purchase the kit you need (includes tools) and fix it yourself. Very cheap - $25-$50.

I've seen the replacement instructions online... pretty hairy. Think I'd probably have somebody else do that, but thanks.

I could Probably get my 20 year old daughter to take it in for you, if you want, when we get back in town. As long as she gets a guy genius, you are good to go. grinning smiley

The cheapest I'm seeing to replace the SCREEN, not the glass back, is $60 for a Verizon iPhone 4.
Am I missing something?
