Speculative Thursday: What Evil will Verizon Do with their Data Plan Changes ?

[news.cnet.com]

They killed my wife's 'unlimited' iPhone plan when they decided that the fact that her late father was still on the plan was reason for them to cancel the whole plan. Coincidentally 4 days after they deleted the old 'unlimited data' plan from their iPhone service. "Oh.. a coincidence !". angry villagers smiley

Family sharing of a data plan does sound interesting. Mrs. cbelt3 and I could share data quite nicely. Kids ? No censored smiley way will I share my data with those little data piggies.

I predict, however, that they will continue to find ways to screw their subscribers, without even buying us a nice dinner first.

Verizon subscribers should cancel their service immediately upon this change and move to a different carrier. Show that this kind of "service" will not be tolerated.

My mom's contract is coming up for renewal soon and she is worried that they will take away her unlimited plan too.

"The way it will likely work is that as 3G unlimited contracts expire, Verizon will push subscribers to upgrade their devices to smartphones on company's 4G LTE network. These customers will then have to sign up for the data share plans."

My contract for my iPhone 4S expires in Oct. 2013 so it appears that my unlimited 3G data plant will last until then.

Mrs. Poochie and I use much, much less data than 2GM/month, so we probably won't notice much of a change when we upgrade to the iPhone 5 or 6 in 2 years....I hope.

I'm tempted to do this. I'm also cursing silently to myself; I moved to Verizon from another carrier which shall remain nameless when the iPhone 4 was finally available so I have more than 6 months before my 2 year comes up for renewal... but I need to know whether I need to drop Verizon entirely before then; I've long been tempted to switch to CREDO because their plans seem reasonable and they offer to buy out your contract but I'm not sure what happens with the iPhone itself (if I paid the $200 + 2 year contract.)

I thought Verizon in the last year started offering some kind of $50 pay as you go ALL UNLIMITED plan to match the discount carriers and options from the other big boys, but that it was restricted to certain phones? What does this mean for that?

AFAIK, I'm in good shape, since I have a month to month (no contract) unlimited data plan.

I'm using a Droid X that I bought on eBay, with the idea that I'd go to a contract ($200 savings on new phone) when the "new" iPhone became available.

Unfortunately, like others have said in previous topic, the screen remained too small for me. Big disappointment.

We'll see what the future brings.

If this is a contract, havent they voided it by not keeping the terms of the deal?
