I always wondered what happened to that technology. I guess it was not very successful.

I am interested in how the touchscreen is going to work, and how it is going to know that there is legitimate input instead of your nose mashing against the screen as you look through the viewfinder. Will it need some sort of iphone-like proximity sensor?

I think it worked GREAT! I loved it for fast wedding work. They now use the thumbwheel on the back so you can designate the AF point with it. I really preferred the eye control.
