| More pictures of critters down on the river... Date: May 20, 2012 12:39PM |
Here's a bunch of random pictures taken over the last week or so. Many were taken the same day as the harrier love fest pics (see here), but that series was huge by itself so others were put of until now....
Here are a pair of very talkative wrens. It kinda looked like the one with the bug was serenading the other, but who knows...
Woodpecker
Not the best picture, but this was the best I could do. This green heron's nest is DEEP inside a large tree. This tree is right next to a very populated picnic area, but is completely non accessible. Just to get this shot I had to go right down to the very edge of the water and contort uncomfortably. The other approach is surrounded by blackberry bushes. First green heron nest I've ever seen...
Pretty sure this youngster came from this nest. I've noticed young green herons flying from that tree where I later found the nest
Meanwhile at the blue heron/egret nursery they are still very busy...
Not bad considering I was talking on my iphone at the time
The male harrier is preening himself while looking over his domain (How do I know he's a male? You must have missed my last picture post)
...and S-T-R-E-T-C-H...

Another cool feeding area for my snowy egret friends... I made too much noise trying to get over there and he flew off, but this is pretty nice...
This is a young tree swallow - don't think he's ready to fly just yet, but he's very curious...
You may remember these that I took two years ago at the same tree hole:

Baby Jack Rabbit - I've seen this same rabbit in the same spot three days in a row...
I could create a gigantic series of these guys trolling around in the water...
