It was a great show

Here's a link that has the same performance, but without the HuffPo-wingnut headline

(politically, it was pretty benign, mainly it was great MUSIC, funny, timely commentary, and a lot of fun)

Note the bass player: recognize her?

Tal Wilkenfeld! My hero! She's the greatest! Been playing on tour with Beck for a few years now, and worth staying up to catch SNL.

Mick's contribution in the sketches were really good! It's the best episode of SNL in ages. Great cameos by Jon Hamm, and Steve Martin. A sentimental farewell to Kristen Wigg. A very worthy season closer!

Agreed. Mick really pulled it off, for being so damn old!! big grin smiley

Probably didn't hurt to have all those primo musicians backing him up. Beck can still make a guitar wail!! I even made it to the end of the show, which is rare for me.

Bittersweet news though, with Kristin Wiig leaving SNL. Who could blame her? She's really kicking her movie career into high gear.

Finishing last night's SNL now.
Strange episode. The audience is about 20x more "on" than usual-- as if they had to agree to go nuts for everything to get in.
I found Mick with The Arcade Fire a bit painful.
The Jeff Beck piece was great, of course.
Mick Jagger as Steven Tyler is the best thing since Dave Matthews as Ozzy Osborne.
Awaiting Foo Fighters.

Edit- Mick and Foos-- that worked.

So how is an article titled "Mick Jagger Mocks Mitt Romney On 'SNL'" with the content of

Mick Jagger took a shot at Mitt Romney during a musical number on last night's 'SNL', which the he Rolling Stones frontman hosted.

Appearing on stage with guitarist Jeff Beck, Jagger sang a song called, "Tea Party". One memorable line?

"Mr. Romney he's a hard-working man, and he always says his prayers, yeah but there's one little thing about him, don't ever let him cut your hair."

not political?

I'm not saying I'm a Romney fan, just that I think this belong on the other side.

Wish the politics didn't enter into it... the thread is about Jeff Beck, which we can (all?) agree is kickass.
Tal is awesome too! Vinnie Colauita on drums is a MONSTER!

That band is something else. Definitely check out Live at Ronnie Scotts if you haven't!

Mavic, I think the poster just liked the Beck/Jagger jam. It was just an unfortunate source to grab from. Considering the potential there for SNL-style political mockery, the lyrics were actually pretty harmless, and generic, just riffing on election themes, not scoring any major points.

The Beck blues shredding was superb!

The HuffPo headline was lame, a loaded, inaccurate characterization of the song, which was fun, and only mildly political. I thought the song was called "WestWing Blues".

The same video clip is available, or linked, on dozens of other sites.

Mick's acting was fun, too.

Only complaint: not enough Jeff Beck!

Saw him with Tal and the drummer I don't know on Palladia (Palladium?) channel at a small club in London. Fabulous of course and then Eric Clapton popped in and and they played a couple of tunes together. Saw Jeff a few years ago in Detroit and he had blond woman in the band with wild hair (only way to describe it) but I never got her name.

Nice to see Tal back with Jeff.

The link had nothing to do with politics, it was the first link I saw to see JEFF BECK!

Jeff Beck, live at Ronnie Scott's, live at BB King's and the tribute show that they showed on PBS with Jeff playing and Imelda May singing, all awesome.

Yes, that "Live at Ronnie Scott's" performance was outstanding. I had to get the DVD. Tal's one featured bass solo, in that performance, is so soulful, so perfect, it's an emotional highlight (Beck utterly beaming with pride) a lot of people took notice.

That's how I discovered Tal, caught it on cable TV late one night. I noticed this really young female band member, with wild curly hair, and (like a lot of people, their first time seeing her) thought: who the heck is that girl? Is that Beck's niece or something? She was 22 years old, but at first glance, looks like she's about 16! Then after several minutes of watching and hearing them play, it becomes clear, this is not a novelty, or kid family member, this woman is a seriously talented player. The unlikely image of her, combined with a mature, well-developed playing style, was such an uneasy contrast, it caused a lot of people--including a lot of musicians-- to google to find out who she is.

That, and the Crossroads Festival in Chicago, in 2007, where Jeff & Tal & Vinnie performed, and Tal's bass solo was the talk of the festival. Her solo killed. A giant stadium full of hardened, jaded blues fanatics exploded, a very enthusiastic response. Tal went from being relatively unknown, to being an overnight sensation.

She put out her first album "Serendipity", before she was 23. Very respectable first album, jazz funk rock fusion. That was in 2007. She's working on her second album, due to come out by the end of this year. It's taking forever, it seems. (I've been a fan since the Ronnie Scott show) She's been touring and recording and performing with everybody, Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, Allman bros., Hiram Bullock, Susan Tedeschi, Rod Stewart, John Mayer, Prince, but primarily, Beck's group, for several years now.

She drives bass players crazy, all the attention and early fame. But tempered with genuine admiration for her playing. Being an attractive wunderkind female talent has a way of getting the spotlight.

Yeah, he really needs to start taking care of himself-- he looks like he's in his 60s!

The article is 100% political. And I'm not saying I disagree with it even, just pointing out that the mods again are not following the rules.

MAVIC, you missed the point.

The poster's intentended link (which most of us understood) was to the video on that page, not to the "article".

Did you not see the title of the post? "JEFF BECK!"

If you ignored the video (of a rare Jeff Beck-Mick Jagger blues jam on SNL) and got hung up on the text on the video link page, then of course you'll question the placement of the post. Your objection is misguided. The mods did just fine. It's not worth a penalty flag,
