Question on Hub Caps and what looks better.....
Posted by: Microman

Gonna replace a set of hubcaps on a 94 Camry. I kept going to a Hub Cap place that has people sell them the old ones off the freeways, and find an original match, but that is getting harder to do. With my Geo I bought a set of 4 after markets, and they stay on fine, and look good.

My question is, some of the designs have the curvature going one direction and some the other. Like a table saw blade. On my GEO it looks correct. WHen the car is morving forward, it looks like the cutting edge is following, as the wheel is going clockwise forward, it looks like the styling of the hub cap is flaring back counter clockwise.

Doesnt the bottom picture look correct, and if the wheel is going forward it would have the following edges on the outer edge?

You need to get yourself some real hubcaps...like this:

I dislike both of those, although I know the pickin's are slim for that car. these always look cheesy as hell. did you try ebay? some of the stuff on there is not bad. there's a guy in Brooklyn or Queens that sells some Chinese brand that is okay.

to wit: the bottom version has four fake lug nuts when the car has five.

I don't think there is such a thing as good looking hub caps. But that's just me.

Won't they look right on one side of the car and wrong on the other?

Come to think of it, I think your are correct. If it is facing one direction and I pick it up and move it to the other side it faces the other way.

Wonder if they sell all four the same in the box, or two are one way and two the other.

Yep, even with alloys you will see the direction of the "blades" change from one side to the other as the wheels are reversed. So it's really a moot point, unless you can get directional wheels/covers.

Drive backwards half the time and it will all average out!

Here's the Camry page at Hubcapmike's:

Yours is the very bottom right. 4/$69. Most other sites seem to land around $25 each.
Looks much more tasteful than either that you pictured in the top post.

Doesnt the bottom picture look correct

Maybe.

Or maybe not.

Or maybe both are "correct".

One could say that if the vehicle was driving forward, to the left, that the upper wheel cover is "slashing" forward, and that the lower one is "clawing" forward.

Me- I don't like either. Too busy is the best I can say.

But then, I tend not to like any wheel covers, preferring alloy rims like:

They look the same, whether seen from the right or left side-- great.

From Black's link:

Solves the "rotational perspective" problem, and looks much nicer than the two in the first post.

Wow, like there's something wrong with wanting to put a personal touch on one's car.

I wouldn't bother. I'd just pop the other hub caps off so it all matches.

Then lower it and plasti-dip the whole car smiling smiley
