Fed up with TW cable

Is there a decent alternative in SoCal that includes reliable and speedy internet connect? What experience does anyone here have with Direct, Dish and AT&T Accuvue?

More importantly, how well do they handle internet connect, do they cap speeds or have tier pricing?

"Satellite" TV providers do their internet as a partnering with local DSL providers, OR with an actual Satellite Internet. Which sucks beyond all rational thought, and is only suitable if your only other alternative is dialup (or two tin cans and a loooong string). So don't even bother to talk to Dish and Direct about internet.

Rgrf,

I can't speak for the quality of DSL in SoCal. They didn't have it when I lived in San Diego. However, I can speak for my experiences with it here in NY. Horrid. Never again. I would choose dialup over DSL. Something else to think about... Cellular based internet.

I see ads from cellular companies for Internet service via a cellular device. The data plans range from just a few hundred megs a month to unlimited. If TW isn't doing the job, a cellular modem and appropriate plan may be a viable option. It won't be as fast as cable internet but it'll still be solid especially 4G/LTE. Just something to think about.

A few options to consider: Verizon FiOS, AT&T Uverse, Sonic.net DSL.

RIP, Greg the DogSitter. You are missed.

I suspect that, like me, you're unhappy with the cable (TV) side of your TW service.

At times, I've felt the same about Cox and considered the dilemma of giving up my very fast internet service.

I know it is possible to retain internet service with Cox if I were to go to an alternative for TV service, but I would lose my bundle discount.

If I've guessed correctly, you might check into the cost of having just internet service with TW.

I believe Clear is the only one left that offers unlimited (and that only applies to their 4G WiMAX network, which is shared with Sprint). Actually, I don't think Clear sells 3G service anymore at all (I'm grandfathered on a 4G/3G plan). Sprint's unlimited data plan only applies to their phones now, and not to standalone data plans (modems & hotspots).

Clear is decently quick (i.e. 3-6Mbps so faster than DSL) if you're in a 4G zone, but you have to check the coverage map. I've been in areas where there's a block in the middle that isn't 4G. But Clear can't compare to LTE (which I've had Verizon run up to 20Mbps) or Cable if you need really high speeds.

Thanks for the responses, I hate feeling stuck and since internet connect is more important than TV I suspect I am.

Think I'll bring AT&T in on top of cable and run them side by side for a while, if that works it's adios TW; hello dish.
