isn't this a good deal? prices are around $1/GB, and go higher for larger SSDs, for examples OWC sells a 480 GB models for $650

Got the Crucial 256 for $200 last week... just installed it in my hackintosh.
Now, what to do with the 64GB? Would make a nice small external to shuttle
to and from work. Any best cases for SSDs?

p.s. Carbon Copy Cloner rocks!

Yeah it does! (and it's supported by OWC ads smiling smiley )

Do you have eSATA (re: your external case request)? If you run out of ideas, i sure could use an SSD to put in my mini tongue sticking out smiley - donations appreciated!

Congrats on your Crucial deal - that's a great price for the 256. As i noted a couple days ago, the Samsung 830 just made it down to $220.

For shuttling files it would be silly to buy anything but a basic case.
I'm booting from two SSDs in these cases:

And have been very happy with them (plus they've come down about $3 since I bought :-) )
--But for that usage I'd probably just go with any $10 USB case.
Would make more sense to sell it to someone who would want to boot from it and really benefit, IMO.

And oh yeah, very pleased with CCC here and not sure why anyone would want to use anything else.

Agreed.

More than I want to spend on a drive, even though that's still a great price.

@rjmacs: Yes, I do have eSATA on my hack case. Also, I'll keep you in mind if I end up stalling out. smiling smiley

@Black: Was thinking of something smaller like this: [www.amazon.com]
It's even got USB 3.0, which I can use on my hack.

Many moons ago, I remember paying $400 for 2GB 7200RPM Quantum Atlas UWSCSI2 drives... Now, 256 X capacity and about 5 X the RAID'ed throughput, plus way faster seek times, and $400 seems expesnive. Actually, that's $3 cheaper than the lowest I've seen the M4 for, but given current costs and, and productivity gains, it still seems like the sweet spot for SSD's is for the 120GB - 256GB drives to use as a startup/OS/apps/scratch drive(s) and use higher capacity, good quality 7200RPM platter drives for storage/everything else. Anything bigger than 256GB is for rich people... there are no real productivity gains to be had versus using a cheaper multi-drive SSD/7.2K setup; basically it's just bragging rights (not that that's an entirely bad thing)...
