Apple TV, about to buy a second one

Warning, long winded prattle!

I love my Apple TV2, it does what I want it to do with no fuss. I have decided to get a second one for the small tv in the kitchen and thought there were two possible options but have now discovered a third.

1) Buy a new Apple TV3, use that in the main room and use the old Apple TV2 in the kitchen.

2) Buy a secondhand Apple TV and use that in the kitchen.

Option 2 I thought would be the cheaper one until I started looking and found that secondhand Apple TV2s were selling for way more than brand new 3s. A bit more research found that this was probably because they could be jail broken and 3s couldn't yet. Looking in to the extras from a jail break and I don't think I'm interested so now we have a very good:

3) Sell old Apple TV2 (at a premium price) and buy two new Apple TV3s.

My thoughts are that at some point the 3s will get jail broken and the secondhand price of 2s will drop so I had better get in there quick.

Over here a new one from Apple costs £99 and Amazon will sell you one for about£97, these both include all taxes and delivery. I have now found a special offer from a reputable Amazon seller who is doing them for about £83 delivered so now the various options come down to this:

1) I end up with a new Apple TV3 and my old TV2 at a cost of £83

2) No point - I end up with two old TV2s at a cost of£140

3) I end up with two brand new TV3s at a cost of less than £50 the lot.

Which should I do? As if I didn't know!

What about getting a refurb ATV3 frOm the Apple Store? They we're there yesterday for $85. I'm not sure if they were in the UK Apple Store, though.

We don't have the turnover here, I have been looking regularly and have never seen a 3 and very rarely a 2.

Apple is not selling refurb ATV2s anymore.

I can say this either I got a crappy remote with my ATV 3 or they're junk. I have one of the older style white pastic remotes from another omputer and it operates the ATV just fine.

I remember seeing an occasional one earlier in the year but that will explain why there are none now.

I have started the process by ordering a single new TV3 from the Amazon seller with the great price. Once that replaces the TV2 I will try to sell the 2 before getting the 2nd 3...I am a bit of a 1 with all these 2s and 3s.

I did that - I bought a refurb ATV3 for $85 and sold the ATV2 on ebay. It sold for about $130 + shipping. I told a friend and hers just sold for about $150 with a buy-it-now.

If you're not interested in the jailbreaking, I don't see the downside, other than the time/trouble/risks that go along with selling stuff. I agree with you that the ATV3 will most likely eventually be jailbroken and the demand for the second generation will significantly drop.

Mine is fine. I bet if you call Apple, they'll send you a replacement. It's probably under warranty anyway since the 3's haven't been out a year yet.

We ended up with three ATv2s. I really should sell and replace with atv3 - we are not going to jb.

I'm not a big eBay fan, so maybe I'll look for another outlet to sell.
