nice addition to your sports memorabilia collection

[sports.yahoo.com]

It's a "one of a kind package" regarding the "Trade of the Century":

1. Original signed trade agreement between the Kings and Oilers documenting the "Trade of the Century", signed by Bruce McNall and Peter Pocklington.
2. Original signed contract with Bruce McNall. Signed by Wayne Gretzky and Bruce McNall.
3. Original and ONLY copy of audio taped conversations between Bruce McNall and Peter Pocklington and Glen Sather negotiating the "Trade of the Century"
4. Several additional important documents and correspondence related to the trade including the "lien release" of Pocklington's pledge of Wayne Gretzky to the "Province of Alberta Treasury Branches"

I remember exactly where I was on the day the Oilers traded The Great One, as my mother called me at work (there were no available cell phones in 1988) to tell me that Wayne Gretzky had been traded. It was pretty stunning. Imagine if the Yankees traded Mickey Mantle or the Steelers traded Terry Bradshaw.

Surely, you didn't believe her...

I can't believe that you compared Terry Bradshaw, a very good quarterback to the Great One.

Wow! That'd be very cool. I'd love to hear the tape. Probably boring to most but I think it'd be interesting.

That was the beginning of what made me a Kings fan (more an admirer at that point but full fledged fan only a couple years later).

Hell - it made all teams in the south possible. There wouldnt' be a team in SJ if not for that trade - it changed everthing.

I admit to not knowing much about football, but Bradshaw had the most beautiful throws as I recall.

Even Mickey Mantle isn't a good equivalent. Think Babe Ruth... Michael Jordon. And even these guys didn't break every damn record.

The NHL is the only pro sport I follow with any interest so I can't really comment on MLB, NFL or NBA players.

I was fortunate to see Lemieux and Gretzky play in their primes. While Lemieux was the better natural goal scorer (who knows what records he would have broken if he played an entire career), Gretzky's hockey sense was unequaled and may never be eclipsed again. He had such an uncanny ability to predict where his teammates would be in a split second, I was in awe how he could thread a pass past 2 defensemen and find Jari Kurri or Luc Robitaille waiting in front of the opponent's net.

And Mario kept the Penguins in Pittsburgh. Being married to a Pittsburgher, I've learned that Lemieux is worshiped in that city along with Bill Mazeroski, Roberto Clemente, Franco Harris and the Rooney family.

I'm hoping that Tyler Seguin develops some of that uncanny ability that Gretzky had; we've seen flashes of it but they are few compared to someone even close to TGO's sixth sense.
