greetings from the apple store and the new MBPR

This thing is NICE!!

I just loaded my picture thread and it scaled to a reasonable rez by itself. Rep tells me that it'll do it in any browser. The scrolling on that page was jumpy.... not as smooth as my i7 13" and really, not so hot... for the web at least.

I dragged the first pic to the desktop to see it at the real rez and THAT is impressive.

I took a pic of it - will post when I get home...

outta here

edit: the pic...

you can see the real resolution of photo on the left. The picture as seen in Preview looks awesome. The web page only looks avg - nothing special and I tried to get that page to scroll smoothly and it just wouldn't.

Perhaps this initial version of the hardware needs a bit of tweeking.

The thing feels heavy. It's very dense.

The screen assembly looks to be 3-4mm thick. This is one thin computer...

Hmm... I'm here also, waiting for them to bring me my new MacBook Pro 13" (non-retina). I don't see you. winking smiley Interestingly, the guy who is helping me is checking with his manager about matching LA Computer Company's price on AppleCare ($180 vs. $249). We'll see.

Edit - they matched the price,

In the nicest possible way of course.

I'll have to get to an Apple Store to check it out. I love the new iPad's display.

And I should probably leave my plastic at home.

Frankly, I'm not all that interested now that I've seen it.

If you do nothing but run FCP or Photo apps that it is THE machine (assuming that you max EVERYTHING), but the web experience was not as good as the conventional 15" machines imo. I expect a little tweeking will change that.

Maybe I'll peruse the next bump.

I don't think it would be great for working with graphics apps, either, given the available "flash storage" options—small and smaller—, unless you never take it out of your work area, or you want to lug along an external drive.

I looked at the new MBPs today at the nearest Apple Store, but did not feel any urge to splurge. And since I have learned since then that it can't be easily upgraded by the user, I don't consider it a viable option (for me). I think the "Pro" designation is, sadly, overly optimistic.

Have they pulled all the 17" laptops out of the stores?

Why would they? Gotta sell off the remaining inventory, right?

Just got back the from the Apple store. No pics, but yeah, that thing is impressive. Text at 1650 looked good, at 1920 I felt just TOO small for me. What a lovely MacBook. I just wish that screen was available in the Non-Air MacBook! I really do consider this a 15" MacBook Air!

Why would they?

Because they're EOLed.

Gotta sell off the remaining inventory, right?

Wrong.

When Apple EOLs something, it's gone immediately. IF there's any remaining stock it could go to resellers or sold by Apple as refurbs. But Apple Stores sell only their current gear.

There's always the big box stores that sell Apple stuff and mail order. Amazon could be worth a look.

Just no BTO/CTO, for the most part.

Have they pulled all the 17" laptops out of the stores?

Yes, they are gone. If you want to look at one, you can still go elsewhere: Best Buy or an independent Apple dealer.

The guys at the Apple Store looked them up in the Refurb section online, when I asked them about it, and they were commenting to each other on the price, as if they were tempted to grab one themselves.
