MacBook Pro 15" W/ Retina can run 3 external displays!
Posted by: OWC Jamie

Check out what we did this morning smiling smiley Pretty cool!

MacSales Blog

Including the built-in Retina display, the new 2012 MacBook Pro 15? can run four displays at their native resolution.

Retina on laptop @ “best for Retina”
iMac used as a display @ 2560 x 1600 via Thunderbolt
iMac used as a display @ 2560 x 1600 via Thunderbolt/DisplayPort
LG monitor @ 1920 x 1200 via HDMI
Moving images and media didn’t create any lag and we were able to play video on all four displays simultaneously.

Good Luck!

"Network Error (tcp_error)

A communication error occurred: ""
The Web Server may be down, too busy, or experiencing other problems preventing it from responding to requests. You may wish to try again at a later time. "

I think the server is too busy running 4 screens at once. There is a guy playing 4 videos and moving images around smiling smiley

Jamie- I was researching that a few days back, and IIRC, doesn't one of the three have to be a mirror of the laptop's screen? Not that three different screens of desktop isn't ample...

Heh, when I did the Surface search I was expecting 75% positive or so, I was surprised by the 68% the other way. I'll bet that their "analysis" is as flawed as most things you find on the 'nets and of course 83.3% of all statistics are made up!

Can't you do more display than that using the USB video adapters?

Buzz - absolutely not, it was 4 independent displays. No mirroring at all.

It's not that impressive, IMHO. Not as far as consumer computer hardware goes. Being able to drive that many monitors at that resolution has been done for years now in the PC world. Apple just tends to keep us a few generations back on graphics hardware.

What I'm more amazed by is that not that the hardware can do it, but that OS X actually supports it. With them pushing pro apps like FCP to single-window apps, it seems really strange they'd support four monitors out of the box.

Watching trend trackers is wonky. I don't expect much from them. Then again, Apple and Microsoft generate quite a bit of negative press. Maybe that bleeds over into perception of products?
